After a couple of days catching up with our mates from Central America, we hit the road again. From Sale we headed down towards Lakes Entrance, there is again some lovely driving along the beautiful coast. Our highlight this time was being able to buy fresh bugs off the boat, these are a type of seafood which have a lovely white meat in them like crab. That night we had a real Ozzie style surf and turf....that was kangaroo steaks and bugs cooked on the bonfire....it really doesn't get any better than that!!!
Then next day we had planned on driving a bit further along the coast and camping up still in Victoria, but they were doing controlled burning in the forests all along the coast. This meant that we couldn't stay in the lovely campsite that we had planned on as we would have ended up getting smoke inhalation!! So we crossed the boarded into New South Wales. We passed thorough Merimbula, where we got out and walked the boardwalk, which is right next to some oyster farms. It was good to be able to get out and stretch the legs. You really do forget how big Australia is!!! A lot of days had a good amount of driving in them!!
We parked up in another lovely spot, where we got to watch the sunset over a lake....all was going really well until we were going to sleep and there was a big thud on top of the roof...something had landed!!! Shane did his best to scare it off and we watched it run away up the tree....we still aren't sure what it was!! The plus of this place was also that we had breakfast and a lovely walk along the beach all before 9am the next morning!
