Well we headed off pretty early not really sure of where our next stop would be.
Along our travels we saw some fantastics sights the first being Millstream Falls National Park, and the magnificent waterfall is the widest in Australia it was truely breathtaking ,this beautiful area was also used for soldiers in the 2nd world war as a base.
The next stop was Ravenshoe for some breakfast, and a quick look around the town and the old train. We headed off towards Innesfail and the rain and cool mountain misty air began to fall around us. It was a very pleasant change from the heat and dust, leaving the town the huge and graceful Windfarm spun with a foggy background of the Misty Mountains. We stopped at the McHugh lookout and the air was icy and the view spectacular with green for as far as we could see, we were in dairy country and it was fantastic.
The road is very winding and we take it nice and easy we pass through Milla Milla and when we get to the turn off to for the Tablelands - Atherton we turn right to Innesfail.
The rain and mist has let up and the next 30kms is a rainforest drive, high magnificent trees of all kinds gracing both sides of the road with the occassional possum bridge going across the road, we are also heading into Cassowary area.
As the skies clear we stop at Mamu National Park and treetop walk, wow the only reason there is a treetop walk and platforms through the park is because Yazi made it.
Its pathway destroyed many of the monumental trees and it still shows when you walk its path. The plants life in here is incredibly with several plants living of one tree. This was a bit of hidden gem and a surprise spot no on our agenda, after about 2 hours we just made it back in the car before the impeding rain was encroaching.
We arrived in Innesfail still unsure exactly where our first night would be and after refuelling the car with gas and petrol and a new gas cylinder for the caravan at a fraction of the cost of what we have become accustomed to we find that being back in a large town is daunting and when we stop at the fruit stall on the Bruce Highway, Mal has to make the decision as to which caravan park, he picks Cowley Beach little did we know this would be our home for the next 3 weeks!!!!!!.
Enjoy the photos
from the great outdoors xx
