Well after departing Karumba we started our journey into Cairns and this would take us through Black Bull Siding, Croyden and into Gilbert River for an overnight stop.
Black Bull Siding was a quick stop for few pictures of the what was once a railway town and then continuing onto Croyden another Goldfield town.
Croyden has the oldest general store in Australia with still the original shelving in the store, it was quite fascinating to see the new shopping items stacked on the old shelving and the museum had lots of memorabilia from the era.
Croyden suffered badly with lack of water in the gold days and ended up shutting down because all of the gold processing procedures needed lots of water which the town didnt have.
We checked out the Chinese Temple as they had a great influence at the time with their vegetable gardens and pig ovens mmm crackling pork.
There is a large man made lake now that supports the town also, after a pub lunch we headed off to the Gilbert River for an overnight stop in the outdoors before moving onto Undura Lava Tubes.
from the great outdoors
