I was mentally exhausted and sleep deprived that I didn't care I was going to sleep in a row of hard chairs in the waiting area at Christchurch airport after arriving at 3.30am from Auckland. It was so freezing I had my hoodie on with three layers of vests underneath with my waterproof coat and a blanket wrapped over. I went to sleep at 4am until 7.30am when I was woken by Asher complaining that he couldn't sleep properly! We all woke up around the same time so we got things packed in the backpack ready for the motorhome. We all laughed at the fact it was our first time sleeping rough and how glad and lucky we were to be able to have a warm comfortable bed every night back home. There was a lovely security guard who insisted on us to sit by the fire nearby as it was really cold that you could see air coming out of our mouths, he kindly offered to call the Britz company for them to pick us up as provided with their services. We waited for the Britz shuttle bus and in the end we got to the Britz office to sort out the formal stuff such as signing the terms and conditions. We got the frontier motorhome equipped for 6 people, we all were really excited as it was the first time we have been in a motorhome on the road! With our home for the next two weeks, we went to have a look in Christchurch evaluating the impact of damages caused from the earthquake. It was a saddening experience to see the buildings looking like it has been ripped apart, the affected buildings had pink graffiti sprayed on the doors meaning it is to be demolished in the foreseeable future. The ones with no pink graffiti on is to be re-built with existing building attached to it. We eventually found a parking space as the Christchurch city was full of the fenced enclosure with a string of road blockages making it hard for us to be able to find the parking space. We had a look around in the city but there was no city to look at, there in front of us was the view of pavements cracked up, buildings falling apart with a bunch of the builders clearing away. We were disappointed to be told that the famous cathedral was bulldozed down already but we took solace in the fact even if the cathedral was still there, we would not be able to see it as the main city was fenced off making it closed. We all felt for the people who suffered and lost the people they loved. We got back to the motorhome and drove out from Christchurch towards to Dunedin where it has the famous cadbury world factory. We stopped by a lake during halfway of the journey as Charlene was tired and it was getting late so we prepared for our first night in the motorhome.
