Sydney welcomed us warmly....not! It was pouring rain, I could see the water draining away from the roads creating numerous of puddles, I said to the group, what a great welcome we have(!) however I realise it is the winter in Sydney at this time of year haha! I arrived at the hostel which was called woodduck boomerbang backpackers by a shuttle bus kindly provided by the hostel as we only had to call the number given to us and they would come and collect us from the airport. The hostel was on a busy road/street and it was in a suburb of king cross which reminded me of london! :-) I felt that Sydney was the capital but Canberra is the capital. I found out later there was conflict on which city should be the capital between these two cities of Melbourne and sydney so the Australian government decided to award the capital city status to Canberra seeing that it is sandwiched between Melbourne and Sydney to avoid arguments. I thought that was a bit wrong because I genuinely felt like Sydney deserved the title as it is well known and has the famous opera house. We got our things packed away in our ten bed dorm which I later discovered the fact we were sharing with three other lads making it two girls vs six lads....one word = messy! A lad on one of the bottom bunk had his food all over on corner with empty crisps packets and him hogging my plug space which I took off and put my plug in to charge my phone, I thought it was greedy for him to have two plugs on at same time. We all decided to go and explore what Sydney is all about. First port of call for dominic and Ashley, subway! That made them happy because it was practically only 5 mins walk from our hostel, We all had it for lunch and went on to get the subway (that's the transport, not food) All of us opted to get the unlimited pass which entails us to use ferry, trains and buses on a fitted price which saved us a great deal of money. We arrived at the circular quay, just next to the famous opera house and harbour bridge! I saw an Italian ice cream shop which looked heavenly so I bought a white chocolate ice cream with a wafer cone, it was the best ice cream I ever tasted, funnily enough it was raining badly, I was in my raincoat feeling cold yet I buy a ice cream...my mind must be either mad or just simply making the most of it! I took plentiful pictures, the atmosphere, and the view was truly incredible, the opera house stood there facing the bridge with these lights! I went to sleep with a smile on my face :-)
