After a busy few days in Airlie beach we left and caught the Greyhound bus to Townsville, gateway to Magnetic Island.
We arrived in Townsville around lunchtime and caught the 2pm ferry which was quite rough! Then it was a simply hop on the local bus to a place called Bungalow Bay.
Our room/hut was cute! We booked a 3bedroom dorm but we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves for 2night out of the 3.
The first afternoon we checked in and relaxed before heading to the beachfront restaurants for some food. We took advantage of their free wifi then headed back late on to our hostel and to bed!
Ok so not the best nights sleep...random birds, wallabies and possoms bouncing around throughout the night and jeez they were noisy! And then daylight hit so we was wide awake at about 5am!
That day we decided to walk around the wildlife park/area (it's only small). It was pretty cool and Christina held a Koala here amongst other things like lizards, parrotts and crocdiles. At lunchtime we headed back to Nelly Bay where the ferry drops off and decided to hire a moke for the rest of the day. This was an awesome car and it was in true Barbie Style...pink paint work and pink barbie covers! loved it!
We bobbed around in that for a while then parked up at one of the beaches for a couple of hours before heading back to the hostel and then to the supermarket for some food!! We decided to be healthy so it was fruit, yoghurt and muesli...was actually pretty yum :-)
Later in the evening we relaxed in the hostel bar area and played bingo!! I knew I hated it but thought what the hell lets give it a go! Still didn't win so after two games we gave up and headed back to bed to see if we could catch some sleep before all the wildlife starting coming out!!
I slept like a log...Christina didn't!! but anything wakes her up!!
The next day was really hot!! We had to drop the car back at the ferry terminal so we gave Jess a lift their as she was catching the ferry, and then we caught the bus back and headed straight to the beach.
It wasn't long before we were toasting and gave up sunbathing! We headed to a bar/cafe called Noodies which was Mexican, ate lunch and ordered a pitcher of frozen strawberry margaritas. Awesome!! Even got a free sombrero!
The rest of the afternoon was spent resting in the hammocks around the pool, listening to music and reading until the sun went down. In the evening we chilled again in the bar before heading to bed.
Another noisy night and early start to the morning! We had to be up fairly early anyway to catch the bus and then the ferry back to Townsville before hoping back on the Greyhound and up to Cairns.
The ferry was smooth and we arrived into Townsville early. We had coffee and a muffin whilst waiting for our greyhound bus to turn up.
The greyhound...well it was five hours and I think I just attract weirdos!! So one girl brushed her hair about 100 times (nearly the whole journey! I kid you not) and then she randomly put an eye patch/bandage over her eye....Erm well it looked fine and she didn't have it on in Townsville?? must be something about Cairns!!
Then as if she wasn't annoying enough, on gets the local drug addict!! He didn't sit still for the entire journey...in fact he didn't sit at all!! forever raiding through his rucksack which was full of about 8pairs of scissors...some were massive!! then he starts attaching them to himself...erm ok...then he decides to drop money everywhere, then he decides to talk to me....wonderfull. So by this point I'm actually convinced he's either A-going to mug me or B-just going to kill me with his scissors....so I moved and sat next to Christina...
Then he sprays aftershave and starts talking to me about perfume he bought for his grlfriend but can't post and would I like to try it and would I like to buy it and then how he has to bike miles with 60kg of luggage and if he had 20dollars he could get a taxi but he only has 50cent bla bla bla...
We virtually legged it off that bus!! Weirdo...
So welcome to Cairns!!!
