After the eventful coach journey we checked into our hotel, showered and arranged to meet Jess for dinner. We opted for Thai and checked for recommendations at the hotel reception.
The restaurant we went to was yummy, Pad Thai was awesome and then we headed back to the hostel to plan a route for the start of our road trip the next day!
We woke up early the next day and picked up our hire car before setting off North to a place called Port Douglas.
Port Douglas: Stop 1! This was a really cute place but expensive! We stayed in a 3bedroom dorm at the Yha hostel which was nice, which checked in and then we headed into town for some lunch and a look around.
We also decided we would cook dinner at the hostel so after a walk around town we headed to a supermarket to stock up on supplies for tuna sweetcorn pasta! simple!
Back at the hostel we asked reception for recommended routes/places to visit in the next few days then we decided to walk to the beach to wwatch the sunset. On route we saw loads of huge fruit bats which were pretty cool!
After the beach it was time to cook dinner which turned out really yummy :-) and was accompanied by a glass or two of wine! Then we chilled before heading to bed ready for an early start in the morning.
Mossman Gorge: Stop 2 this is situated in the Daintree National Park, lush rainforest and crystal clear water! It was really nice so we did a 2km walk around which was enough as it was so humid!! We were all sweating buckets!! The rainforest was really really nice though and the trees were pretty cool!! We all collapsed back into our 'air conditioned car' lol and continued onwards to Cape Tribulation...
Cape Tribulation: Stop 3 (via the ice-cream place of course!!) the jouney to Cape Tribulation was pretty cool, through forest and windy roads! We stopped off on-route for weird flavoured ice-creams! 3 out of the 4 flavours we tried were nice...the last one was like poop!! made me gip slightly!! We therefore arrived late afternoon at our hostel...
So the hostel...this was in the middle of the rainforest, bugs, bugs and bugs!! we were all freaking out slightly especially when we virtually had to crawl to get into our room due to the MASSIVE spider and it's web!!
Our room was wooden, reminded me of a rather large coffin and our beds were on wheels haha amused me slightly but the good part of it was it had a fly/bug netting on the windows so nothing could get in...phew!!
In the evening we went to the communal area and ordered dinner which was expensive and pretty gross! we played monopoly, got attacked by bugs and decided to go to bed early purely just to be safe from the all the insects and whatever else lives in the rainforest ha!
I slept quite well considering the noise from birds, Christina didn't sleep much at all! We grabbed our free breakfast and decided we had had enough of our rainforest experience so continued on our road trip to the Atherton Tablelands which were right back down south...a long drive!!
The Tablelands:Stop 4 I drove today, I didn't mind the roads are quite good fun and the time passed quickly! We arrived at the tableland area which all the locals 'love' and recommended...hmm so it was like driving through Yorkshire and the towns were really backwards! like stepping back 50/60years!! The only good thing we all enjoyed was the coffee works...a place which has every flavoured coffee you can imagine and loads of chocolate! plus it was all you can eat/drink!! We all overdosed on chocolate and were buzzing from the coffee!!
We did do the waterfall drive, which was nice but wouldn't say it was amazing!! The cow traffic jam was cool!! and after that we just decided to head back to Cairns a day early and spend a few days chilling out there!
Back to Cairns: Stop 5!! because it wa a long drive, we didn't arrive into Cairns until late on. We were all shattered but hungry so we popped out for quick dinner and then bed!!
I spent the next day getting a pedicure spa, followed by a walk around the mall (it was air conditioned!! far too hot outside!!) and then decided to get my ears pierced lol. In the evening Christina cooked an amazing risotto and we chilled out in our room.
The following day was total chillout! pancakes for breaky, stir fry for tea and then bed as I had to be up at 3am for my flight back to Sydney! Ready for our second roadtrip!
