So starting to really like China now. Shanghai has completely dazzled me. Yesterday was my only full day here, so got myself a metro day ticket (costing only £1.80, barging) and travelled round the city all day.
So with my black and white metro map, which is less than ideal for reading the different coloured lines, I went on my way. A lovely girl in my dorm highlighted all the stations I needed. My first stop on the agenda was the French Concession. Got pretty lost at the beginning, getting to metro stations is easy, but once your on the streets it gets a lot harder. No idea which exit to take and where to go. Ended up walking round and found this little maze of shopping back streets. Some very cute little shops, including a popcorn shop with mad flavours, one thing I've noticed about Asia, they love their popcorn. Have no idea if I was in the French area, but it was a nice stop.
Next stop was Yuyuan Garden. Set in a much more touristy area so thank god there was some English directions. And I'd got Yuyuan Garden written in Chinese which was helpful. The garden was set in the old town, so got to walk round that too. Very nice being able to see some tradition Chinese buildings. The garden as well was gorgeous. Just how I always imagined a tranquil Chinese garden to look like. Then it was onto The Bund, the viewing point for Shanghai's famous skyline. It was nice to see it in the day, but it was AMAZING to see it at night. Completely dazzled. I do love a good skyline, and there was a great atmosphere on The Bund.
After that, headed to Nanjing Road, where all the shops are. Didn't do any shopping, just walked around taking it all in. Then after 9 hours of sight seeing, I headed back to the hostel. That little black and white map turned out to be my savour for the day, so I've saved it for the scrap book :).
Went to bed one happy girl last night. Then today, today is a big day. Getting my last train, to travel to my final destination, BEIJING BABY!
