Yippee! A 25 hour greyhound bus trip! The bus trip was fine I guess until some really smelly men got on and the bus and started to smell very bad! It was that bad that the bus driver actually got some air freshener and sprayed around the men - very subtle! It made us laugh though! Oh and we think we hit a roo at one point. But all in all it wasn't that bad, we listened to our Ipods and stared out the window watching the scenery go by... We saw a lovely sunset whilst driving through the Kimberley's.
We arrived in Broome and checked into our hostel. There isn't a great deal to do in Broome, but we managed to fill 7 days. The hostel had a free shuttle bus to Cable beach twice a day, so we took full advantage of the service. Cable beach is beautiful, it is roughly 30km long, and doesn't really get that busy, so it's very easy to fine a quiet spot for relaxing in the sun and enjoying the view. It does have a 'nudie' part, but we didn't want to find it!!! The best part of Broome for me and Sarah was the out door cinema. It was really lovely; apparently the cinema holds the world record for being the oldest outdoor cinema! It was built in 1916! So as you can imagine it was really beautiful looking place - the seats were rows of deck chairs - we watched 'The Dutchess', the film was ok but it was more about the atmosphere. We were sitting there with bats flying around the screen the stars shinning down on us and the palm trees blowing in the wind! It rocked!
We also spent some hard time round the hostel pool, and chatting with a batty old woman we met. All in all we just chilled out. We booked a bus tour company called "easy riders" to take us from Broome all the way down to Perth. The tour company basically take you to all the sights along the way, but you have the option of 'Jumping on and off' when ever and where ever you like. So this gave us the freedom of being able to spend as much time as we wanted in each place as we liked.
So we left Broome on the Saturday morning to set off on our next adventure. There were only 5 off us on the bus, so it was a nice small group. 4 English (Me, Sarah, Hailey and Breeze), 1 Ozzie (Darren the bus/tour guide) and 1 from Taiwan (Alex). Our first stop was 80 Mile Beach; it was a lovely place, with loads of shells that had washed up on the beach. We advised not to go swimming here, as there are some very large tiger sharks and big crocs that like to live there! So as you can imagine we took the advice! We stayed here for about an hour then back on the bus to get to Pardoo cattle station where we were staying that night. That night Darren cooked us all a fish curry (obviously I politely declined).
The next day, we were up early so that we could get to Karijini National Park, to do some gorge walking. We walked for about 2 hours in the mid day heat, the scenery was absolutely stunning (see all the photos in the Broome to Exmouth photo album), we went swimming at 3 different water holes. There were no sharks or crocs, thank god - so I turned my attention to the possibility of being eaten by a water snake instead! Ah paranoia! I wasn't on my own, Breeze was also as paranoid as me so we stuck together - I'm not sure that, that was such a good idea though it probably made us a lot worse!
Alas, no one was bitten or eaten by any snakes, so after walking for another hour or so we got back onto our bus to go to the campsite that we were staying at that night. After checking in Darren suggested (although it wasn't in the itinerary for the trip) to do a sunset gorge walk. This was more like a rock climb, but well worth the effort!
We got back to the campsite just before it went dark, that night we had a BBQ, and eat under the stars! It was amazing apart from when me and Breeze saw the biggest, hairiest looking spider I have ever seen in my life! So from that moment onwards I was paranoid about being bitten by a spider - so much so that I didn't sleep a wink for the whole night - I was just pissing Sarah off a ot when I kept putting the torch on in the tent every time I though a spider was going to jump on me and bite me!!! (Sorry Sarah!)
The next day we do alot of driving to get to Exmouth.
