Today we went on a half day trip where we started off at the railway markets in Mae long. Because the driver was late picking us up we missed the famous train coming through the market so we went to the remaining parts of the market where there was a lot of fish and fruit being sold. We mostly wanted to see the floating markets so we weren't too bothered but have quickly realised that the Thai drivers always turn up late and then drive like Schumacher.
We were told by a couple on our coach that the train comes twice a day and all stalls along the market have to rapidly move back when an alarm sounds so they don't lose their produce and allow the train to pass through! Shame we missed it!!
We then travelled to Amphawa, which is a weekend floating market. Either side of the river, boats pull up to the side selling food (mainly fish). We had our first Thai noodle soup there which was very green and healthy and surprisingly filled us up..although we did order another to share ;).. With 3colas it came to 130baht/£2.48.
Afterwards we went on a long tail boat trip before heading home where we fell asleep on the coach as we had to be up at 6am for a trip to the Erawan National Park and to see the bridge over the River Kwai which is also known as the "Death railway bridge"
+ The cheapest meal we've ever had
+ An earlyish night in Bangkok after a tasty Pad Thai for dinner
