We have just arrived back from a 3 day 2 night 4x4 trip on fraiser island. We all had an amazing time with lots of amazing scenery and lots of laughs!
The evening before we left we went to the bottle shop to stock up on drink and snacks for the trip, we decided between the 3 of us that 2 boxes of goon (cheap boxed wine) and a crate of beers would be a respectable amount.
The next morning we met our guide Alex and were put into groups of 8 and these people would be our mini family for the next 3 days! We were given a crate of food and a menu of what to cook for each meal and the rest was left down to us to work out and we had to make it last for the whole trip!
We had 3 German girls, 2 German boys and us 3! 4 out of the 8 of us wanted to drive so we took it in turns across different surfaces and difficulty levels. This was the fun part, we drove in a convoy of 4 jeeps driving fast and slow at times along the beach going through hard sand, sliding and drifting through soft sand, going through small streams and defiantly making good use of the suspension. At one point we all got stuck and had to get out and dig around the tyres before pushing the jeep out of the ditch, but I'm pleased to say I wasn't the one driving! :)
Over the 3 days we went to lots of different places around the island, Lake Mckenzie which was a beautiful crystal clear fresh water lake. It was such a nice quiet atmosphere here where we went swimming and chilled out. We stopped at SS Maheno ship wreck which was pretty cool to see.
Another place we drove to was called champagne pools. It was named this because when the sea crashes against the rocks it sprays white water into cove giving it the champagne affect! The morning after the 1st night we went to Eli Creek which was nicknamed hangover creek as they took us all there to shake off our hangovers by floating down a cold river which worked for me.
We camped for 2 nights in tents in an aboriginal camp site. Fraiser island has a lot of wild dingos but luckily the campsite was surrounded by fences. Me, Dan and Sarah all shared a 3 man tent which was a tight squeeze and my feet hung out the end which I found out by waking up in the middle of the 1st night half out the tent. The 1st night was a very drunk and funny night! Goon was to Blaim for this. It started with me and Dan trying to start the camp fire and then meeting some crazy Dutch girls and a couple of British and playing drinking games on the beach till early hours of the morning! The next morning we all felt rough but Dan felt the worse and bumping around in a 4x4 was probley the last thing he wanted to do.
Next stop Agnes Water to drive some Scooteroos!
