Long straight roads. Rolling tracts of green acacia trees and the cattle hiding in their shade. Beyond the vet fence, villages become more abundant and the locals use this highway as a path between one village and the next. Going through the villages when school gets out adds a riot of colour to the greens and browns of the rolling savannah that is northern Namibia far from the coastal deserts and dunes.
Where the Caprivi Strip joins the bulk of Namibia is where the Kavango River heads from Angola into Botswana and eventually into the Okavango Delta. It is here to that Ngepi Camp is found - www.ngepicamp.com - and home to hippo and croc diving. If you are into extreme sports, then this diving takes it to the next level!
Campsites and treehouses make this place betwitching. Dawn sees the mist rise from the river and the days hark by with calls of the fish eagle and the sonorousgrunts of the resident hippos. Wild kudu are often seen on the opposite bank and snake tracks outside our open air treehouse add a little bit of interest to the surroundings!I have no idea what was rumagging through our bathroom at 3am, but it shot off into the night when I gave the treehouse wall a good kick!
And how can you beat tea and rusks in bed as the African dawn greets you, Good Morning? Maybe breakfast on the verandah watching the fishermen punt by?
