Well yesterday started with the trip to the airport. I discovered that I had got the time of my flight wrong ( it was 45 mins earlier) but I still got there in plenty of time. The USA do their customs and immigration stuff before you arrive in the country, so I did all that in Toronto, which confused me alot! The flight was only about an hour so it went really fast. We were delayed by 30 mins though and then we had to circle before we landed as they had shut off half of the airport and more planes were trying to use a smaller amount of space.
After collecting my luggage I took a shuttle to my hostel. Its massive and really nice so its all good. New York is so massive and there are people everywhere! I was so tired by that stage I just went to the supermarket to get dinner and then headed to bed.
Today was an early start...wanted to get as much time as possible. I took the subway (they arent as bad as everyone says they are) to Central Park. I swear Central Park is the easiest place to get lost on the planet and the worst sign posted place. There are no signs and the maps dont have a 'you are here' sign so they dont really help at all :P I had my Lonely Planeguide with a walking tour and I still got lost about 5 times...there are so many little paths as well as roads thoughout the park. That said I did get to see a little of it. It's basically like any other big park, except its in the middle of the city, lots of lakes and statues and all that. I thought I would be brave and have one of the hot dogs from the stands in central park...tasted just like a hot dog but it was really tiny! But atleast I can say I have eaten one!
Then after that I took the subway againto Times Square..which was awesome, my fav place so far! It was so busy but it looked really cool. There were so many stores as well as the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood. And about 10 starbucks. lol.
They also have this store called the M&M store, like the chocolates. It is 3 stories of M&M merchanise, everything you can think of from golf balls to dog jumpers. And all these different colours of M&M so you could make your own mix. That was cool.... Just up from Times Square is the Theatre District which is basically Broadway. So it has all the theatres and billboards of all the musicals that are showing.
Then after that I went to the Lincoln Centre, which has all these theatres that dance companies and orchestras perform in. It is having renovations at the moment so couldnt really see much. Then is was back to the hostel and dinner time.
