Up early for a train to Naples and onwards to Pompeii, arriving at 4pm. Had a nice walk around town and an early night with the dorm room to ourselves.
The next morning, we headed to the old town of Pompeii at 10am. A lady hard-sold us a guide book that we didn't really want but turned out very helpful so glad she did. The old town was much bigger than expected and was really interesting. Once we got in, we realised we started at the wrong end but no dramas, it was more peaceful that way. Some of the old houses were amazing, several of which still had partially intact artworks and murals. All houses had gardens and really good indoor/outdoor flow. After a few hours of peaceful wandering, we neared the main entrance and of course, the hoards of tour groups. After a thorough six hours of exploring, we were tired and ready to head back to the hostel (we had foolishly worn our jandels which were fine but meant we were pretty sore at the end of the day). The exit we took obviously wasn't intended for pedestrians so we got a little lost but eventually made it back!
Friday was a travel day. Train troubles getting to Naples but arrived with a few minutes to spare to for our connection to Caserta. A man tried to sell us a guide book for Caserta, strangely when we said we were not staying, he gave us free postcards and then helped us find our train to Bari. Nice first-class train to Bari and then a long wait for the ferry to Greece. We played cards and joked around which was a nice way to pass the time.

Joneiker Good gracious it brgnis it all back in glorious technicolour! Having left Malaga airport in the rain we arrived in Stansted under a clear blue sky and beautiful autumn colours! Do hope the rain cleared up for the walkers. Will try and send some of my photos if I can work out how to do it easily.Kindest regardsShona
