When in ROME...
Do as the Romans do. I took the day to sleep in, catch up on pictures, blogging, email, facebook etc. and went on an adventure to the grocery store. Sounds so boring, but it was really quite fun to look around at all the different things Rome has to offer their shoppers vs. the US. I noticed a MAJOR lack of packaged convenience type food and more emphasis on whole foods used in ACTUAL cooking. Too bad my hostel doesn't have a kitchen this time or I'd be cooking up a storm! Bought some lemon cookies, baby carrots, cheeses, yogurt, apples, kiwis and a banana, some fat free chips and little champagnes for a picnic tomorrow in the park. Went for a big walk around town, to the opera house, and back. Went out for a cider beer and to play some cards with Matthew while Emma slept (she caught a bug and went to the hospital for free today...wow Italian Health care!) Emma and Matthew are the Australian "mates" I met while in Florence and have met back up with now that we are both in Rome. I also bought my train ticket to Assisi on Monday. I am really looking forward to a smaller town and more local type folk.
So...When in ROME what do the Romans do? They walk(not like we do, but slowly), they take in the view (and they have so many great ones here), they DINE (not just eat, but take their time enjoy each bite and have an actual conversation), they shop (the rich ones...) and travel elsewhere (SO funny to me since I have dreamed so long of coming HERE).
Tomorrow Plans: Go on a picnic to the Burghese park. Maybe check out the Jewish Ghetto or wander through...
