On to Death Valley
Now that we have got our bearings again we are heading back to Baker which will take us towards Death Valley. But before we leave we may as well check this place out. Calico Ghost Town. An old Silver mining town from the late 1800's which has been preserved. How much the building industry has changed I'll say! There was so many mine shafts in the hills around the town and small rooms with fireplaces made into the hills out of rocks certainly not 5 star accommodation. The houses in the town itself were made from wood with the old horse parking areas out front. As most places we've been the tourists were piling in fast. We were there so early we even missed the gate fees - Beauty!
After Calico we went for breakfast at Peggy Sue's 50's Diner. It was a well set out restaurant just like a 50's diner with lots of memorabilia on the walls of Betty boop, Marilyn Munro, the blues brothers, Elvis and the waitresses were even dressed just as they would have been (or as I would imagine) back in the day. Kind of wished I was a little older to reminisce a little more but let's be honest some of the people on the walls We had no idea who they were.
