Another beautiful day in Germany. The day Germany play England in the World Cup. We caught the train to Munich for the day. The trains are very spacious, clean and very very fast. The germans are quite happy to leave other people standing so that their laptops, handbags or backpacks have a comfortable seat. They will move them, but they force others to ask - in German!!!! I love the picture perfect houses with the cute gardens. Bavaria is certainly a place out of the storybooks.
THere is nothing like being in a place to learn the language. Oh.. about ordering food... I leave that to Stan. He is loving all the different foods and has named this holiday (as with every holiday) the festival of the belly.
In Munich we caught the Hop on Hop off bus around the town. As usual learnt some interesting facts. Munich is named after the monks ...... not the munchkins. Munich is the 3rd largest city in Germany and has a population of 1.3 million. Eighty percent of the centre of the city was destroyed when it was bombed during WWII. It was completely rebuilt using the original plans and the rubble from the ruined city was used to make a garden and hill at their Olymipic stadium. We visited the BMW muesum. Good if you are into cars. We watched some of the game with the crazy germans. It was a good day to be in Germany and not England. The longer we are here the more they appear simular to Australians. They love their sport. They dress up to go to the pubs to watch the sport, and get drunk enough to sing after the game.
Saw the Glockenspeil. Was terrible!!!!! So many people still crowd to watch it however. At least now I can say I have seen it. At least there was a good cafe directly opposite it.

Hayley So good you are enjoying yourselves. You can imagine how much Jeff loved Germany when he could go as fast as he could on the Autobahn, then use all the time saved drinking Beer! Stan you will have to come and compare BMW museum with the Porsche and the Mercedes Museum with Jeff. So glad you are having a great time. See you at the Mad King's castle next!
Zach The Germans went berserk when they scored, didn't they? At least you're not in England, Italy or France!
