Today was our big adventure up to the land of ice and snow. An opportunity to wear our warm coats. They have taken up valuable real estate in the cases and not used since the trip to Sydney airport. The trip involves 2 separate cog trains and the normal Swiss rail train. The first cog train took us up the mountains pass some spectacular scenery. Photos can never do it justice. The second train was up through the mountain. Nineteen kilometres of tunnel through a mountain!
Once at the top it took me a while to feel 100%. Not sure if it was the thought of a mountain on top of us or the height. We were at about 3400 feet above sea level. Again amazing views and I had to concentrate on not looking down from the viewing platforms. There was a lot of ice and rock a long way down.
The ice palace contained a serial of ice sculptures. They were not very spectacular, but did give us an opportunity to wear our coats. Even out on the glacier it was too warm for coats. Such a waste of space!!!
Back in Interlaken we finally found an excellent restaurant in Switzerland. It was Spanish! We enjoyed great tapas and wine. It was always going to be lovely, it was in the marktplatz.
