Today was a quite day. We visited Anne Frank's house. It was soooo crowded - but it was so good to see how small it was and how it has been preserved.
Stan realised all of his respectable clothing was in the laundry and would not be available till the next day, so went spent a few hours doing some shopping.
Mum and Dave were still out by the time we decided on dinner, so we went to the pizza restaurant owned by our B&B hosts. It was awesome food....but more than I could ever eat. We loved that cats are acceptable in restaurants. Everywhere around Amsterdam cats were welcome.
After dinner we decided to visit the casino. On the way we passed another festival....September seems to be the festival season. There were bands, beer, wine and caravans full of food around. Also a very obvious police presence.
We stayed a while and then found ourselves walking against the crowd as we headed towards the casino.
The casino was fun. We played roulette. Stan went to buy us another drink. All drinks are free when playing the tables. When the croupier realised that we didn't know this he called after Stan in the only words he knew would get his attention..... Hey Kangaroo.....Kangaroo.
The walk home was lovely. The canals, the bridges, the bikes - You see pictures of Amsterdam, but it's like Venice, it's not 'til you see it do you appreciate the sight of the canals.
We found our later that Mum and Dave had discovered the Vondel, a huge park where the whole of Amsterdam seemed to spend their Sunday. They also learned how to find their way around on the local tram system. Somewhere on their journey someone managed to steal Dave's passport so they spent several hours at the local police station. Very friendly police stations there - you get offered cup of tea... Fortunately, they got away in time to tour the canals on a night cruise.
