17:30 - I was anxious about not waking up for the bus last night, so I ended up falling asleep at 2.30 and then sleeping in bits and pieces. I was being picked up at 7.30 at the hotel for a bus ride that would take me to Jijoca (about 6 hours) and then from there a jeep would take us the rest of the way to Jerico (Jericoacoara). The jeep bit took about an hour on a track that was at times muddy and in the end just sandy :-). We stopped about ten minutes away from Jerico to look at some sand dunes. Excuse my face in the pictures but I was shattered :-). I have to say that all of yesterday and most of the bus ride over, I did start to wonder if the place would be worth trekking all the way up here. I even thought of calling the agency to see if I could come back a few days early. But, I am so glad I did not. Throughout the trip (this is my last stop), there have been things that have had the WOW factor for me, others that were nice and things that didn't really register. The WOW factor haven't been many in numbers. At times though they have been inspirational. Well, I say all this because I didn't honestly think this would be one of the WOW things...after all it's a beach...I thought it would be nice...that's all. But I have been proven wrong. After dropping off my now excessive luggage (I'm in lucky room 13), I took a lift with the carriage and horse of the hotel and went into the centre of towm (5 minutes by foot). I wondered through the main street and made my way to the beach looking for somewhere to eat. I stopped at Naturale (makes amazing crepes). As I walked on the beach, with the sand dunes in the background, I swear I almost felt the clock stop. And wow...this is an awesome place. There aren't any crowds as the surfers leave after the end of February due to the wind dropping. I can't imagine it does get that crowded anyway. I am now in my room having a shower and will pop out for dinner later. I am really looking forward to the next 4 days and already wish I could stay longer. Still, maybe I can talk some of you into coming here with me again!
