Ruthie's Travels
We have been in Ko Lanta for 4 days. This Island is very much under construction at the moment with mostly deserted/unspoilt beaches. I get the feeling they might be gearing this island up to be another Phi Phi (the majority of buildings under development were resorts/beach huts. The resort we have been staying at was at a beautiful location (right down the bottom of the island) called Baan phu lae. Unfortunatly they had a tendancy to rip you off a bit with the internet that was expensive and had a mind of its own quite often wiping an entire e-mail with a toutch of the shif key.
I have realised something from staying at this resort...i'm definatly not one of those nature loving, tree hugging hippee types that seemed to stay at our resort. We were right out at the end of quite a rural island and as a result there were crabs running accross your path every 3 paces on the beach, nasty buggys moving every where in the undergrowth and a large animal trapped in the attic of our shack that decided to do its marathon training at night over our heads! (We suspect it might have been a gekko) coz there was a massive one residing on the wall above our heads everytime we walked through the door and it kept making this loud chiping noise not dissimular to that of the animals off Jurassic park!
Really beautiful scenery though with a deserted white beach and wind chimes every where (very relaxing if i hadn't been so scared of the wildlife!! We met some younger people in the resort next to ours where they had happy hours on cocktails and 'Poy' (swinging around of firey leash thingys) on the beach at night. Being boring little townies we hipped and hopped our way along there every night (terrifiing expierience for me!) just to get a bit of civilisation.
