Ruthie's Travels
I love Singapore! They really seem to have things right here- okay there are alot of rules ie. no chewing gum in the streets, no littering or displaying public affection in public, no jay walking etc. but this is by far the cleanest, most orderly, efficient community i have ever seen. There is only 2 % unempolyment here and people who live here, on the whole seem happier, more fullfilled and content with there lot. Crime is low and the Singapore goverment come down very heavily on the use of drugs here. Beacause it is an island, there are naturally alot of buildings that are built up the way. Shopping here is amazing and there are so many of restauants and bars with food and drink from every part of the world in every style that you are really spoilt for choice. As i'd imagine is simular to places like Hong kong and Japan costumer service is very important here and looking round the many malls and arcades Singapore seems very technologically advanced in comparison to little old Blighty! Honestly its like stepping into the future here..little things like outside most public buildings there are long plastic bags for you to put you wet umbrella in toliets that do all sorts of weird and wonderful things!
Having flown into Singapore from London preiviously it was nice to come back to a city we were familiar with where we could relax and on the whole trust people more. Taxi drivers here are really polite they will recomend places to go not because they are getting commission on taking you there but because they genuinely want you to have the best expierience here and think these places are better for you to visit.
On this stay we rested our heads in an area called Little India (they also have a China town here..its so cool..saves you having to visit the actual countries! (joke) Hannah had her return flight to the UK on the second day so we stayed in a hotel for the first night an me and Becca have been in a shared dorm in an Aussie run hostel /gig venue ever since (apt i thought)!
Were both flying today (yay!) Becca to UK and me to Oz. The girl i'll be travelling with for the first 3 weeks arrived yesterday and we were able to go visit her Aunts/Uncles house yesterday and have a dip in there pool- v. swish! We then had Cocktails in a bar called 'New Asia Bar' on the top floor of a sky scraper and had food in one of the (much cleaner) hawker stalls in china town.
