Day two of Athens we had a great start with a decent brekfast before juming into a walking tour of the major archeological sites around town. The history in this place is amazing! It is like watching my big fat greek wedding in the sense that they enjoy letting you know where certain greek words have been used to construct certain words in the english language. It is very interesting to see how much detail and thought went into each and every aspect of the buildings, from octagonal shapes representing the different directions on a compass, to fine decorative paintings on roofs which are of native greek plant, the pillars of acropolis's and how they were developed and how they represent different time periods. It is just fascinating to experience a place with so much history. The people are friendly, conservative and very passionate about their istory and culture.
Publice trasport is very easy to use and it runs frequently and efficiently. Trains stop at midnight, buses run continuously and become less frequent after midnight, but only by 10 mins or so.
The last night in Athens I decided to stay out a bit longer, the hostel had a tiny roof top bar which was great! you just sit out in the open on some cussions. Later on went down to bar and had my first experience chatting to an american bloke. He was alright, just really only engaged in the conversion when talking about himself, not very genuine, this is what I have been told to expect anyway, and its true so far :p.Had a couple beers with him never the less. Later on started chatting to a couple ladies from the Wales. Was good to sit and talk, went for a midnight snack and a stroll around town. Now have another contact in the Uk to hopefully show us around when we get over that side.
Ended up hitting the hay at about 2:30 fully knowing I had to get up at 5am to catch the train into the port. Little did i know this was a pretty tame night compared for what was to come in Mykonos.
Catching the train was pretty easy, i really thought navigating around cities etc would be a lot harder in a foreign country but its fairly easy.
