Ross and Nina Uncut
We drove to Rotorua and stopped at a small village called Hamilton for the night which was nice but there wasnt much to see there. Rotorua on the other hand had loads to see and we spent a few days here.
However before we got there we stopped at a place called Matamata which is better known as hobbiton. This is where all the scenes from the lord of the rings set in hobbiton were filmed. We did a morning tour of the site which still has the hobbit holes.
It was really interesting and the guides were really good at explaining what happened whilst they filmed. Apparently most of Matamata had no idea they were filmimg there until the first filmed was released and the owners of the land told their friends.
When we got to Rotorua we were looking forward to seeing what the tourist town had to offer. Rotorua is famous for its mud pools and Geysers. Although it does smell of suphur which isnt the most pleasant!
We went to one of the cultural centres there that showed us traditonal dance including the Haka of the Maori people. Then we saw the biggest geyser in Rotorua (picture) it was pretty cool.
For Ninas birthday we went Zorbing! This basically involves getting into a huge hamster ball with water in it and trying to run down a hill. In our case we lasted about 2 seconds before we had both been wiped out.
