We caught the ferry from Wellingotn to Picton and picked up a different hire car for the south island. We drove west to spend the night in a little town called Nelson. Then we headed south To a coal town called Greymouth for the night, stopping off at a town called Ross (always knew i was famous) which was a gold town during the gold rush in NZ. Unfortunately by the time we got to Franz Josef where we were hoping to climb one of the two glaciers on the west coast of NZ the rain was so bad visibility wasdown to 10 feet. We did brave the rain to walk to the base of the glacier but we decide against taking one of the tours up the glacier as it wouldnt have been worth the effort. Will have to do it next time!
