Ross and Natalie's Travel Journal
We then headed for a riverside town, Kampot...it is one of the prettiest places in Cambodia influenced with many French designs. From here we went on a day trip to a deserted hill station and hotel at the top of a mountain. The journey there was not for the soft hearted, it took three hours on a back of a 4 wheel drive going at the speed of light...s***ting ourselves all the way. The deserted hotel was great, much like in the movie, The Shining! Later in the afternoon the fog came creeping up the mountain filling the air all around us and it got spooky. We went swimming in the rapids with all the Cambodian children tubing down the river. There was alot of staring going on from the locals and sometimes it makes you feel a bit uncomfortable. We then took a trip to caves in the Elephant mountains. Our guides through the caves where not much older than 8 years old. Of course their climbing skill where just a bit better than ours. It was a struggle but very rewarding and we had to do army crawl through dark tunnels. Inside the tunnels there where untouched stall ignites and stalagmites, beautiful! We visited peppercorn plantations in Kep...the French like to use it in their cooking. We headed back to Phnom Phen because we where leaving for Vietnam the next day.
