Three days at Cobar were very pleasant. It is a large caravan park with loads of space between caravans
It was very pleasant and restful. We found the time to do the washing in our twin tub, to go for walks around the park and to go to the shops for a few supplies, as well as plenty of time for reading and relaxing.
We are at Warrawong on the Darling, where we booked in for three nights on Monday. Tomorrow we leave and will stay at Broken Hill for two nights. Then two more days in South Australia, till we get to Port Hughes on Monday. Unfortunately the Darling River here is not running and the water that remains is bright green. It is such a shame as I remember not so long ago how delighted the people up this way were when rains up north brought water to the Darling and it began to flow. The caravan park has nice green lawns, but is surrounded by very dry countryside that looks like it badly needs rain. It is part of a working station but not clear on what they farm as there are no animals to be seen and no ploughed land for crops. The water for the park comes from a bore which looks very much like the bores we have at home. We went into Wilcannia yesterday to buy some Coca Cola and ice. No Coca Cola, but some cans of Kirks diet lemonade which sells for about 7 -8 dollars at home, the cost of ten cans of "cheap" lemonade and a bag of ice was $20.60. No prices were displayed on the items on the shelves. The shop called the Friendly Grocer had very few supplies on display. I wonder how the locals survive as this is their only fruit, veg, meat and grocery store. The town itself is sadly in need of plenty of TLC. Today is a bit different to the last two days which have been quite uncomfortably hot 35c, 36c. It is 9.30am and still quite warm and we have just had very close lightning with a huge clap of thunder, with drops of rain you could count and that was that.. We are really looking forward to travelling and holidaying in South Australia and being able to go for walks along the beach.
