Namaste,
We arrived in Jaisalmer by taxi again, as it worked out a lot quicker and easier that by train. It only took about 6 hours so not too bad. Jaisalmer is a town in the middle of the Thar desert, close to the Pakistani border. It is every bit a desert town sandstone brick and very very hot and dry. We initially booked into a hotel that had a pool! Which was pretty awsome, but when wondering around the town we found a beautiful haveli (old fashioned house that rich people used to live in that are now hotels) which is still owned by Maharajah decendents, so we ended up moving hotels to the super nice one (but no pool). On our first day here we wondered around the streets meeting lots more cute children and handing out pens and taking their photos so they could see themselves on the camera. The day after we went to the fort, which unlike the other forts is very much its own little town and is still lived in by local people.
Yesterday we got in a jeep and drove out into the desert with a tour guide and went to a desert village and met some of the children. Unfortunately we had forgotten our pens and the children were not happy! In fact its safe to say they were pretty horrible to us and quite abusive! Little scamps. We continued on to another village (where the children were much nicer) and got on our camels and rode out into the desert for a couple of hours which was fab. I was hoping Rawdon would have an evil camel after he made so much fun of me about the cow incident, but all the camels were well behaved. After our camel ride we stopped on a sand dune where our guides cooked us an amazing dinner of curry rice and chiapatti. Yum. We watched the sunset and then sat and layed under the stars watching shooting stars for a couple of hours bfore getting back in a jeep which had followed us out back home.
Today we are getting the train back to Delhi which will take 19 hours, plus the undoubted delays there will be, so not looking forward to this train ride! Will arrive tomorrow afternoon on the 1st August, so that I can meet Tabbi at the airport on the second. So excited about seeing her now and heading up north towards the Himalayas.
No worry chicken curry.
