Konichiwa people! We've made it to Tokyo safe and sound! To be fair, we made it safe and sound some time yesterday and just haven't got round to finding an internet cafe to update our site until now! I suppose that isn't strictly true though, because i did go into a shop earlier which advertised "Internet" amongst other things, but once inside, the internet theme seemed to centre around japanese cartoon characters in school-girl outfits and private booths, so i made a hasty retreat!
So, this is Day 2 in Tokyo and so far our time has been neatly divided between eating, sight-seeing and sleeping. Bit of a struggle yesterday after an 11 hour overnight flight, but we still managed to see Shibuya, Shinjuku and had drinks at the New York Bar on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt. The film buffs amonst you will know it from Lost in Translation, but to Rachel's delight and my disappointment, Scarlet Johanson in her underwear was nowhere to be seen! We rounded the evening off at 10.05pm with Rachel falling asleep standing-up on an escalator! It was a very long day indeed!
Today, we visited Tokyo Tower, stumbled across Zozo-ji Temple (or something like that - it wasn:t in the guidebook!), braved the Neon at Akihabara before coming back to Shinjuku for drinks and an Internet cafe. The streets of Kabukicho are teeming with Kajagoogoo-styled pretty boy types and lady escorts in equal measure... interesting indeed!
Anyway, early start tomorrow... we:re getting the Shinkansen bullet train to Hiroshima to see the sights. At this stage Rachel still believes that the train travels over 542mph an hovers 12 inches above the ground... she may be disappointed.
Will be back in Tokyo on Thursday after Hiroshima and Kyoto... should update you then.
We miss you all. Be good. xxx
