We arrived in Jodhpur on Friday. We spent the afternoon looking around the Mehrangarh fort and Jaswant Thada. The fort is impressive, it is set up on a hill overlooking the city. Jodhpur is known as the blue city as all the buildings are painted blue. This is because the maharaja insisted on this years ago, although the buildings no longer need to be blue, the people have decided to keep this tradition up. The view of the blue city is amazing from the top of the fort.
Close to the fort is the Jaswant Thada which is where the royal cremations took place. This lovely white marble building gives an amazing view of the city and fort. It is really picturesque with the lake next to the building where the bodies would have been cremated. They would have been placed on a wooden raft and the raft would have been set alight. It's an enchanting place.
Next we headed into town and visited some spice shops and indulged in some spices to take home with us.
In the evening we went to Pal Haveli for diner, the food was amazing. The restaurant sat on top of the roof of a hotel and gave good views of the fort that was all lit up. We then took a bumpy tuktuk ride back to our hotel.
