Breakky - we bought breakfast last night on our way home and found we didn't have cutlery and plates to eat our fruit on.... ...so we used the bathtub! White water rafting…more so - rafting day White water rafting day! We booked this yesterday after hearing that it was fun from other people staying around our accommodation… We were part of a 6 person group plus a dude who looked so casual that we questioned whether he is a professional! Helmets are optional…so is footwear! The canyon around us was amazing! The water flow was rather slow and not many tricky parts to it… …the water was seamless – very clear and flat Lunch time!! (actually it was 11am and we had only been on the water a short half hour and stopped here!) This is pol washing the veggies for lunch... The dude in blue shorts is the main rafting dude with us – this little spot is perfect for swimming in and has been setup for BBQs… The water is incredibly cold… Pol jumped in once but for less than one minute! On our way again (after stopping for lunch for a good hour !!!) This stage proved to be more challenging – every now and then…but we mainly took video of the tricky parts or were too busy holding on and falling into each other! Cpt – and his mate having a cigarette!!! The dude that took us out was the main steer-er – and he spoke no English at all..so lucky we had 2 guys from Holland who knew Bosnian and English. We didn’t get any intro instructions on emergency procedures or how to work the paddles (some people were using the paddles backwards!!) – nothing! Where’s Pol? – in the water!! The group stopped and the instructor dude showed us that we could jump into the flowing water and also how to dodge the rocks (in Bosnian…but we got the idea when he was showing us with his hands!) The rest of the leg was very flat and slow – more paddling than the water pushing us down…we both expected more adrenalin – well..at least some adrenalin but this was more a family fun thing to do…still, it was a great experience to see the rocks and trees around and the small group we were with were very fun too. We met a couple from Belgium who had some great tips on where to go. Nice people! The ride home was in a private car – one of the other instructor dudes from another raft – Bosnian style…Ros and I were a little unsure of the drive home when the car got to 140km/h…tight bends and all!...we got our adrenaline rush here!!....... We made it back to our accommodation where we picked the bike up and headed to Sarajavo – Ros prebooked a Turkish hotel (which incidentally has only been open for 1 month as we found at reception)… It was around 4pm now and time to head to Sarjavo – about an hour and a half away… Heading into the city of Sarajavo: Tramlines! This city still has electric bus lines running through it! Our hotel: On arrival we were given a traditional Sarajevo drink - a kind of flavoured water. Yum! We wanted to find a traditional restaurant for dinner. The first one we found and phoned were fully booked. Then we phoned a second one, the lady spoke no English, so we decided to just walk there. It was about 2 k's and ALL uphill! On arrival it was closed for 2 weeks! In the centre of Sarajevo they have the meeting of the East and West or Old and New parts of town. Both sides were very different. It's also symbolic of the acceptance between all cultures as there are quite a few different religions here. We guessed this was created at the end of the war and also symbolic of peace.
