Saturday 16th October
We got up early and the shuttle bus picked us up at 8am to take us to the airport. Unfortunately our flight was delayed from 10 am until 11.20am, but at least it gave us a chance to have breakfast! We flew from Sydney to Brisbane and then from Brisbane to the Whitsundays. Whitsunday airport was really small, the baggage claim involved you walking outside where there was no baggage carousel instead you took your bag off the back of the truck.lol. Another shuttle then took us to our apartment...and we must add the driver was very friendly. The summit apartments where we are staying are gorgeous, the apartment overlooks the sea which is just stunning. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a large living room and open plan kitchen.
We unpacked and then headed down to the nearby shops/bars/beach/lagoon where we had an early tea as we hadn't had lunch. We had a walk along the beach and sat and took in the views and while we were there a wedding was going on which was lovely. We then managed to get a few essential bits from the local shop (milk, teabags!) and then we just chilled back at the apartment and watched Harry Potter! Rob was not happy with the ending...damn you Snape!
Sunday 17th October
We had a lie in and then went for a lovely long walk along the beach front for about an hour which took us to a big supermarket where we stocked up on much needed supplies....ice-cream, beer, and choc oh and some nice lunches and dinners! We got a taxi back to our apartment as we had lots of bags, and then made a nice lunch which we ate on the balcony. We then headed down to our pool area where we played table tennis (the lads are very competitive.lol.) and cards! In the evening we did a BBQ which was great and had a few drinks and watched Sherlock Holmes.
Monday 18th October
This morning we got up early as we had booked Kayaking. A bus picked everyone up from their apartments/ hotels, there were a total of 7 in our group. When we got to the water front we had a brief introduction of how to use the paddles and equipment. We were in 2 man Kayaks so the lads had to paddle and steer from the back, whilst the girls set the pace for the paddling at the front. Once in the water we had 10 minutes to get used to paddling/ steering before heading out to a small island. Getting there was quite hard work as we were against a head wind so the water was very choppy....we got quite wet.lol. but no-one capasized thank god! Once we got to the island we had 45minutes to chill and have a swim/ snorkel. To go in the water we had to wear stinger suits which are quite possibly the most unflattering outfits I have ever seen! All in one skin tight suits....yes with a hood and gloves.lol. On the way back it was much easier and chilled as the wind was behind us. Therefore it was much easier to take in the scenery which was stunning...clear blue waters surrounded by little islands :)
When we got back we had lunch and have just come to an internet cafe to write the blog. We are now going to the lagoon to have a swim and tomorrow we have booked a boat trip to several islands where you can do diving and snorkelling. We will update you on how it goes this week! Lots of love Le and Rob xxx
