Happy New Year!
What a way to celebrate the New Year than a walk around the walls of York - which is what we did.
But first, we visited the National Rail Musesm, and if you like trains, then this is the place to go. Two massive warehouses of trains, miniature trains, train displays, trains you can walk through, plus information about rail history of Britain plus across the world. We even got to see a train turntable in action - not a balance one but an electric driven one - surprisingly it moved quite quickly.
Chels, Nick and Rach rode the Mallard simulation of its world record run down Stoke Bank (126mph). Was interesting watching them go up and down and from side to side though they didn't feel it much.
As we so near the wall from the museum, we then decided to walk the wall. Quite a trip. About 2 miles long and took us about 2 1/2 hours to do it. From the medieval period we also got to see some Roman ruins as we walked as well as some lovely shots of the York Minster (which we will visit on Sunday).
It was terribly cold on Friday but we all managed to survive - hopefully we will surivive Iceland in a week's time.
