Today we took a train trip (only £9.80 for two of us return) to Bath (about 20 minutes from Bristol).
Two things to look at particularly - the Roman Baths and all things Jane Austen.
The Roman Baths were amazing - the Romans were a very clever bunch of people to create such as complex arrangement of rooms that utilise naturally warmed water. There were saunas, bathing rooms, a plunge room (cold water plunge bath to close the pores after their sauna) - all these rooms doubled for male and female bathers - as well as the main bath.
We were given a free audio to guide us through the display and not only got to see the baths but hear how the areas were used and constructed, as well as seeing some of the items they have found in their excavation - 17000 coins, pottery, carvings. It was a very clever interactive display.
We wandered through the streets of Bath (seem to do that a lot) to the Jane Austen Centre were we learnt about her life in Bath and its inspiration for some of her work.
It took us a long time to find somewhere for lunch - everything was full - but we found somwhere on the pulteney bridge - it has really small 2 storey shops on each side of the bridge.
A walk to The Circus, Royal Crescent, Queen Square and then back to the train station to catch the trip home.
Again, to walk where everything is so old is mind-blowing, and we were obviously not the only ones impressed - the crowds were huge everywhere we went.
