Just have to mentioned that our fish and chips in Noosa were amazing - you select your own piece of fish - Iain went for Australian Sea Perch and i had flake and we chose to have them both battered and so everything is fresh and we took our HP bottle from the car and sat by the river eating them (the HP bottle has come everywhere with us!!) Ooooh and the Nougat factory was cute - an old little house that has the factory on the first level - got to watch them making it and they we bought a few bars - they all have Macademia nuts in them as it's Australia's nut ( i got a coffee & a ginger one & iain got tropical fruit - helped us along on our train journey to Rockhampton)
Well - Rockhampton!
We arrived in "Rocky" (as it's known) on Tuesday night and we are so glad we bought a train pass instead of the Greyhound as it's so comfy - like an airoplane - you have a TV and free headsets etc.
We arrived at our hostel - and it's a proper Backpackers hostel above a pub on a street corner but it was clean and we had a bed & a sink in our room but the kitchen and TV room is OK.
But all day yesterday it pissed down so our great plan of we'll just sunbathe went to pot and there is absolutely nothing to do here - zilcho!! It's like a backward town out of the wild wild west - everything closes on Sundays and has 1/2 days on Saturdays and during the week even the pubs close at 8 (good for us as our room was above the pub!) We walked in the rain but there was nothing to see so we had to sit at the hostel - today isn't much better so just now we are at the local library as you get 1 hour's free internet access. Oh and to make matters worse - there are hundreds of flies everywhere - we got up to a count of 40 files on Iain's back!!
We have checked out our room now but our train doesn't leave til 11:45pm tonight so we can sit in the hostel this evening and then we'll have to go to the train station and sit - oh and when we got the train from Noosa you check you luggage into the Guard's compartment and each of our bags weighed 25kg and our holdall bag is 18kg!!!! Couldn't believe it!
There's a few cool buildings in Rocky - old western style that we have got a few pics off and one of the pubs does live bull rodeo on a Friday night but we won't be here to see that. We arrive in Airlie Beach at 7:30am tomorrow for a week but the weather is forecast tropical storms and thunder til next wednesday with no sun - the whole point of Airlie is sunbathing (great!!) and we have a sail booked for 2 nights on Tuesday and Wednesday which won't be much fun if it's pissing down - seasick and no tan ahoy!!
Anyhow we spotted another internet cafe not far from here that we might be able to upload our photos to (as the library computers are a bit old for it - not that we have many photos of Rocky!)
We have 8 hours tonight on a train so we are going to stock up on some nibbles (not good as exercise has gone right out the window since we are not in a routine anymore and don't want to carry swetty tshirts from place to place!)
Cheerio for now from happening Rocky!
C & I xx
