Day 5. To Estella Sept 30
Lynn and I are limping along to an old beautiful hilltop village. Everything seems to be on a hilltop!
Passed by a church built in 1062. This area is full of such history quite well preserved and it is overwhelming to try to absorb it all. Each small town has at least one building under construction, usually a very nice house. Wondering whether these are weekend places for people from the cities. Lots of farming, the fields are huge; often we follow the edge of one for a mile or more. There seems to be little other industry. Lots of construction but also many places listed for sale. Looks like boom and bust at once.
Out the door at 7 this am after a half hour of taping up. Feel like an NFL player. We both have threads thru our blood blisters to keep them draining; normal technique on the Camino. Still hot and quite humid today and for several more. Took us 7 hours to walk 22 km (14 miles) so the blisters and heat are taking a toll. Taking tomorrow for R & R as this is a historic town with lots to see.
