Day 20. Carrion de Los Condes to Calzadilla de la Cueza
A short day since we have no options within 10 km ahead except albergues Met a lady from Victoria who is staying in albergues and she has experienced bedbugs. Our resolve deepens.
We are now half way to Santiago. 393 km behind us and 397 to go. We have walked 105 hours in 19 days with 1 rest day, so we are doing 3 3/4 km per hour including lunch and rest breaks. About 20 3/4 km per day. Our pace is picking up a bit; our mileage is not.
To continue on the nerd theme, I was doing some thinking on what our feet, ankles, knees and hips are going through. Our stride is about a half meter average so each foot takes our weight 500 times per km, or 10,375 times per day. I am about 260 lbs with my pack. So each foot is bearing nearly 2.7 million lbs per day. And that doesn't count all the steps exploring the bars/cafes, churches, etc. No wonder our dawgs are barking each evening!
