I arrived in Gisenyi after a 3 hour plesent bus ride from Kigali the capital of Rwanda. The scenery on the drive was quite spetacular with lots of lush hills and an abudance of trees everywhere.
Gisenyi is very close to the border of the DRC and is based on lake Kivu. The town itself is quite a pretty place and has a nice lake beach while you can overlook the mountains on the congo in the distance. There are a lot of western hotels here as well as the African feel to the town so the place has got a good mixture.
I only spent one night in Gisenyi and I spent the night in a church dorm with another American guy who I meet and we were also sharing with 25 Rwandans, who were constantly talking about us and laughing Muzangos, Muzangos (white man). Once the noise had died down I managed to get to sleep but at 3am they were up talking loudly and laughing as if it is was the middle of the day let alone the middle of the morning. This is quite common in African culture as they dont really realise what they are doing, and at first I could not belive it but after a while I just gave up caring and as soon as they quitened down I went back to sleep.
