Once we left Botswana we headed for Zimbabwe. When we arrived at the border we had the normal formalities of crossing the border but with no problems apart from the fact that I had to pay US$50 and the Aussie and German only had to pay $25 because of political problems between the UK and Zimbabwe.
Once over the border we headed for Vic Falls home to the famous Victoria water falls. We arrived at a campsite close to the centre of town and headed into town to arrange our activates for the duration of our stays.
We had a number of options available such as white water rafting, bungee jumping and others but I opted for white water rafting, I had never done it before and had always wanted to do it. Once we had organised our activates for the following day we headed for Vic Falls.
The falls are quite spectacular to see although we went during the dry season the force of the falls is still very impressive. There are a number of points to view the falls from and we spent a good few hours walking around taking in the falls from different angles.
The next day we were off on our rafting adventurer. I opted for the full day rather than half day because I wanted to make the most of it and I was not disappointed. We spent the whole day rafting from around 10 to 4 with a lunch break in the middle which consisted of a great barbeque.
The day started with a walk down some stairs to the begging of the river which did not look that safe at all and it was a hell of a drop to the bottom so I was glad not to slip. When we got to the bottom we jumped on the raft and headed for quieter waters to undergo instructions we did this with the Victoria falls thundering down a short distance away which made it all the more impressive.
We headed off down the Zambezi down a number of grade 5 rapids. I managed to fall out once which was awesome and I got held under water for a few seconds which at first was worrying about after a while you relax and as the instructor said curl yourself up in a ball and you will come to the surface which I did. We also managed to flip the raft which was even better and the best part of the raft.
One of the parts we had to get out and walk around because it was to dangerous to go down it was considered a grade 6 rapids but our guide went down in the boat by himself! The Vic Falls is a grade 6 so I am not sure how that works, because if you went off in a raft there you defiantly would die.
Overall Zimbabwe was a beautiful country but its people are suffering due to political problems. There is no food in the supermarkets when we were there and inflation was at a daft rate so we only used US$. The rafting is one of the best things I have even done in my life and I would strongly recommend it to anyone.
