We were up early today to get going on the Great Ocean Road. First stop was Bells Beach wasn't asthetically pleasing but the surf...WHOA! Gem urged me to go for a surf but i know my limitations, There was a pretty big swell far beyond my abilities but hats off to the boys who were out there. So in my frustration I lay on the floor shooting my pistol in the air shouting AAARRGGGG. (watch Hot Fuzz and Point Break).
Now the Great Ocean Rd is exactly as described, it's a road next to the ocean that's well...great! What is most touching is was, for the best part, built by returned soldiers between WW1 & WW2 during the depression.
So we are in Port Campbell for a few nights and again in true Rich and Gem luck our first glimpse of the twelve apostles (well 11 apostles and one pile of rocks) was obscured by someone with a giant smoke machine.
We caught the sunset at the apostles later that evening and it was magnificent. We decided to climb down the steps and camp until dark and look for the penguins. it got dark, Gem got scared and we left to find out later that we were at the wrong beach...ha ha.
Gem's note: Twelve Apostles - things that make you go ooooooh! And yes, I did get scared it was bloody dark and the seagulls had obviously watched one too many Alfred Hitchcock films and were giving me evil eyes and showing their sharp pointy teeth!
