The 5th of July was spent having a relaxing day in the caravan park. It was a good chance to catch up on some washing & cleaning. The kids checked out the playground and the parks pool. That evening we headed off following Julian and his family out to Ayres Rock to watch the sun go down. This is actually a pretty amazing thing to do. As the sun dips down the rock and surrounding landscape change colour and provide a spectacular display for onlookers. The rock magically goes bright orange, then red, then purple and finally brown. Sitting there watching natures show whilst having a drink and nibbles has to go on everyone's bucket list.
The following day we packed up and left Yulara to head toward Kings Canyon. We free camped that evening around 50 km south of Kings Canyon with Julian and his family. This was a great camp. The kids got their hair cut by a Canadian backpacker. We had a campfire, the guitars came out, the stars lit the sky up like fireworks, it was really good and very memorable.
