We set off for Kings Canyon arriving around 9.30am from our free camp. It was reasonably cold but we all knew not to rug up as we would soon be working up a sweat. Kings Canyon is situated in the Watarrka National Park around 320 km from Yulara. It is often referred to as Australia's Grand Canyon. The canyon is around 275 meters in depth. There are two walks you can do. The first is the rim walk which is around 7km around the top of the canyon. The second is a 1.6km walk along the creek bed at the base of the canyon. We started out on the first walk with Julian and his family. It is tough going as you have to negotiate your way up a very steep rock face to get to the top of the canyon. It was tougher work for me as I carried Charlie a lot of the way. Once at the top you look down over the car park and and canyon and realise just how far up you are. You can see for miles! We pushed on then and started the rim walk. However a short time later I decided it was too dangerous, particularity for Charlie to continue on. There are no rails or safety barriers, you are walking along the edge of cliff tops that plummet hundreds of meters down to the rocky creek bed below. So we all descended down again to tackle the creek bed walk. Julian and his family continued on the rim walk. The creek bed walk was really nice and I just wondered how awesome it would in the wet season to see water barrelling down the creek and smashing over the large boulders in its path.

That evening we free camped around 100 km west of Eldunda with Julian and his family. We had a friendly dingo hang around our camp like he was our pet dog. We spent the evening relaxing around the camp fire and just chilling out. From here we would head south and Julian and his family would head north. It was kind of sad as we had spent a great week together.
