We slept in this morning, after a very unsettled night. The seas were a little rough and we were rocking and rolling. We had some cereal upstairs, and joined Warren and Mel at their table for a lovely catch up. We were invited to a brunch for Mariner Society members (which we had joined before we left home) so at 11am we went to the lower level of the restaurant where we were greeted by the Captain and the cruise director and treated to a delicious 3 course meal ...

Lovely quiet day on board today. Sleep in, late Brekky. Leisurely time for the ship too as we timed to reach a certain shallow shoal at high tide as we had very little space (4ft) under the keel. We navigated this area really slowly with the Chilean pilot on board. We went to a talk by the First Officer - a virtual tour of the bridge. He was very interesting and amusing and, when someone asked, he admitted that we are not allowed to go straight from the Falklands...

Great night's sleep last night - best so far. Woke up to the most amazing views - rounding Cape Horn and coming along to an island whist waiting for clearance to enter Chilean waters. Then we continued on our journey past the southernmost islands. As we rounded Horn Island our ship gave many long blasts on the horn, indicating that part of the ship was in the Pacific Ocean and part was still in the Atlantic Ocean. This morning we docked in Punta Arenas. This, like so many other ports, is also their container shipping terminal. After a leisurely breakfast Tom and I caught a taxi into town and had a look at their main square, and the local handicraft stalls. I bought a new winter hat. A cruisey day today as we cruise from the Falklands down to the Strait of Magellan - discovered by Ferdinando Magellan in 1511. Nothing but flat sea as far as the eye could see. Breakfast in the restaurant was followed by a talk in the theatre about our next two ports of call in the next two days.
