Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we docked in Punta Arenas. This, like so many other ports, is also their container shipping terminal. After a leisurely breakfast Tom and I caught a taxi into town and had a look at their main square, and the local handicraft stalls. I bought a new winter hat. We walked down to their maritime museum where Tom marveled at all things maritime and nautical before finding a taxi back to the ship. Another taxi driver translated to our taxi driver where to take us and our taxi driver proceeded to point out to us, in Spanish, all of the highlights as we drove through town. Tom and I did much oohing and aaaahing. OK. So we had lunch upstairs on the lido deck - very easy to get a window table with most everyone onshore. Then a nap before changing and joining the Bunnikins upstairs in the Crows Nest for happy hour and trivia before dinner. Happy hour meaning that martinis were $US6.95 as usual, pay an extra dollar and you get two, and I may have consumed four? Man, they were so smooth!!! Alcohol prices are the only good thing about Holland America. Restaurant food is awesome but Lido is club food. Halfway through our main course (Santa Fe salad - tortilla with chicken breast and Mexican salad) the CHICKEN ARTIVED. So - this is the Bali of cruise ships. We are pretty disgusted. Doesn't bode well for next years' cruise - I think we'll have to cancel and go with a different operator. Soup spoons for cereal? Yeah no. Just doesn't feel comfortable. Back to Cunard. What were we thinking????? So - after dinner (with Pina colada cheesecake for dessert!!) we went up and watched the new show. The entertainers only boarded today. They were wonderful!!! Called Airborne - they juggled AND rode the unicycle and used LED colour changing juggling pins. They had talent, were entertaining and clever. LOVED them.
