Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We slept in this morning, after a very unsettled night. The seas were a little rough and we were rocking and rolling. We had some cereal upstairs, and joined Warren and Mel at their table for a lovely catch up. We were invited to a brunch for Mariner Society members (which we had joined before we left home) so at 11am we went to the lower level of the restaurant where we were greeted by the Captain and the cruise director and treated to a delicious 3 course meal with bubbly. We were also given a tile coaster by an old Dutch pottery company for Holland America. It was just lovely. After that we recuperated and watched the Reece Witherspoon movie "Wild" as our ship was finally steered into some more quiet passageways. It's really good, they show a recent release movie in the the theatre three times in one day, and then show it on repeat on one of the TV channels the next day. The captain announced that two more people presented with gastric today. He was not at all happy. He said his crew keep disinfecting everything but people are still being careless and spreading the disease and it's wasting their time. It's been going on since the day after we started. It has made the cruise so different and less comfortable. At four we went upstairs and joined a few of the Bunnikins in the Crows Nest for happy hour. Dianne didn't make it - she's seasick. Kay was seasick this morning. Poor chickens. The price of alcohol is sooooo reasonable compared to Cunard (probably the only favourable comparison I could make - oh, and that the mats in the elevators are changed each day with the day of the week on them, so you know what day it is!). Oh, and the waiters are so good at knowing our names and our preferred drinks! We returned to our cabin in time to prepare for our final formal night. We had duck foie gras with smoked salmon and caviar, followed by surf and turf - fillet steak with a lobster tale. As he dished it up our waiter told me I could have another lobster tail if I wished, and halfway through the meal he came and asked me again - I couldn't resist! The lobster tails were sooooo sweet! This was finished with a Grand Marnier Soufflé. So good!
