Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we arrived in Puerto Montt - the holiday resort area of Chile - although Puerto Montt itself has industry (salmon farms, timber and manufacturing) as well. We had an all-day shore excursion out to a town on a lake overlooked by an awesome majestic volcano - Osorno Volcano. Our first stop was the Petrohue Falls - which are sort of horizontal waterfalls, or river rapids After the waterfalls we drove through lava fields, some over a hundred years old, right up the side of the volcano until we came to the chairlifts. We only had time to go up the first set of chairlifts (at personal expense) not the second ones that go higher. The views were lovely, and the peak of the volcano was just majestic! After time to wander around and absorb the scenery we returned to the bottom chairlift station and to our coach for the one hour trip back to the tourist village on the edge of the lake, Puerto Varas, for lunch at a large hotel overlooking the lake. After lunch we had time in the town to explore and shop before returning to Puerto Montt and getting the tender back out to the ship in time to change for dinner!! Huge day! We are exhausted.
