We did the quad bikes the other day. Extreme sports or what! Theres not very many countries u would get to do this sort of trail. Health and safety is well down in their priorities, but we're glad it is otherwise it wouldnt have been half the fun! :)
About 4 hours it took us to get to the top of Mount Khom Long (1459m high) and back on the quads, and they can fairly go. It was about 42 km in total drive.
We started from the bike centre driving up through main roads for a while then through village dirt roads filled with pot holes. The villages are scattered nearly the whole way up the mountain.
Then we reached the fun part! It was raining for a couple of days so when we got to the thick jungle, the track was a mud bath which made it far more difficult.
The jungle track went on for hours and was just about wide enough at most parts for one vehicle. To the left of us for alot of the way was large drops of hundreds of feet. It got pretty hairy at times. At one stage everyone had to be helped by the guides to get past a part in the track were the track was washed away and the only thing stopping us from falling through the jungle was a few bits of bamboo! You can see the part in one of the photos were Army was stuck.
In one of the other photos u can see were we got stuck for ages when pick up truck came down towards us and we couldnt get past them. Some of us had to get out to help - Army sat on his bike lol. There was a whole mountain village family on the truck, the dad was was out with his machete cutting away the follage to get us past - some craic.
It was getting dark when we got to the top and because it was cloudy we did get to see the sunset but the views were still spectacular. There were times on the way up when u looked over the edge all u could see was clouds below us - like being in a plane!
The way down was just through more villages then onto a main road were we got to put the foot down. It just showed us how far up we were since we were flyin to it on the way down and it still must have taken us about 40 mins to get to the centre.
Class day out!
The next day we went to the snake farm were they put on a great show. It was some craic the handlers wound the girls up bigtime. I'll let photos and video tell the story.
