Koh Phi Phi, where the Tsunami destoyed a few years back, is where I am now.
The town which was flattened by the giant waves is just a small piece of land between 2 islands - they have tsumani warning systems in place here now with signs telling u where to go if one hits!
Today we chartered a long tail boat (6 of us) and went to Phi Phi Lay where they filmed The Beach -amazing place. We went snorkelling in different parts around the island - thousands of tropical fish everywhere. I have a wound on my foot which the fish kept bitting at. once I told everyone this, Sebastian, one of the German guys said 'right lets get outta of the water before Keith attracts the sharks' lol - it did make me think and we did all get back on the boat.
Snorkelling at another place later, thats when I stared death in the face!I saw a black and white snake coming up towards me from the sea bed - I called to everyone to see it and it came right up to me, then I thought sea snakes can be poisiness cant they?- the boat driver said 'yes they can sometimes' . We thought nothimg of it until a diving intructor told me later that it was the Banded Sea Snake which is highly venomise - he said when it bites u, you'll be dead in 15 mins !!
We got back to our dorm after our wooden boat almost broke down on the way back (george I remembered your story!) and one of the locals is killing a snake outside our room - he told us its highly poisiness and that there are lots of them here in Phi Phi. Nice!
So quite an eventful day, but it was great!!
