The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park is snow-capped mountains, coastal beaches, deep fjords, rivers and lakes and glaciers. We are in the native village of Hoonah and part of the history here is the salmon cannery. We were tendered into this port and had a very exciting day. Historic Skagway allows you to revisit the Gold Rush Era. Gold was discovered in the Klondike region and in 1898 the rush was on. Some of the stores and saloons are authentic in Skagway's historic downtown. We really enjoyed this town and it was a great surprise to walk down the streets and realize it wasn't that long ago that this was a booming town with the gold rush. Thousands of hopeful prospectors set up camp in Skagway. We took a ride on the White Pass...

We arrived in Juneau this morning. The city is right at the port which makes it very easy to get around town. Back in 1880, gold nuggets were discovered here and within weeks prospectors staked a settlement site. The gold rush was on and the town of Juneau was born. We do have rain today but we were still out and about in this very quaint Alaskan city. Lucy & Rog and Len & Jen took the tram for a better view and did some shopping and site seeing in tow...

Today was a cruising day which took us to Hubbard glacier. What a beautiful site!! The captain took us amazingly close and turned the ship all around for a great view. Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. It extends 76 miles from Mt. Logan in Yukon Territory. The face is more than 6 miles across and 300 ft high with the most beautiful blue ice. We watched from our balconies and could hear the continual thunder of the ice shift...

Today we enjoyed the luxurious "Hotel Alyeska". Following a delicious breakfast we took the tram to the top of Mount Alyeska. We had a great view of the valley below and were surrounded by hanging Glaciers. We were able to take a bit of a hike at the top. This mountain is a ski resort and they receive over 900 inches of snow a winter.
