Right now I'm enjoying a cup of caramel machiatto at Coffee Hound (my favorite coffee place in Normal) and I just wanted to share something that I've had on my mind since I got here in America.
Most Americans are genuinely interested in knowing where they come from and also where others are from. I've lost count of how many times I've had to explain exactly where I'm from, where I was born, what languages I can speak etc. Telling other of my background and upbringing has also made me realize how fortunate and proud I am of where I come from. Growing up on a small island, I always dreamt about living somewhere else (America) and I would sometimes resent my background as I thought somewhere else to be more fun and interesting to live than on Bonaire or Aruba. As I'm getting older, I'm realizing more and more how fortunate I am to have been raised on such beautiful islands that are like paradise in the middle of the Caribbean. Having moved to the Netherlands as well, it gives my lifestory an interesting twist and I'm appreciative of everything and everyone I've come to know along the way. I'm so blessed to have the opportunity to get to know more of the world and go out and explore different cultures.
Ok, that's all I wanted to get off my chest right now. I have a class in 15 minutes so BUH-BYEEE!
